We researched 500 of Built In’s 2022 Best Places to Work to identify how widespread the adoption of corporate philanthropy benefits is amongst leading employers.

The 500 companies we analyzed were included in five of Built In’s Top 100 Best Places to Work lists across these five major markets: Chicago, Colorado, New York City, Los Angeles, and Boston.

We analyzed 500 Best Places to Work all together, by market, and by size (employee count). And here are the eye-popping results we found…

Corporate philanthropy in Best Places to Work - overall (all 500)

Across these five major markets and 500 Best Places to Work, we found that:

90% of the Best Places to Work offer employees at least one social impact benefit (452/500).

77% offer employees two or more social impact benefits (385/500).

This could be any of volunteering in their local community, partnering with nonprofits, matching charitable contributions, and/or paid volunteer time off (VTO).

And here is a breakdown of each benefit:

79% of companies offer to volunteer in the local community (395/500).

69% offer nonprofit partnerships (345/500).

44% offer to match charitable contributions (218/500).

53% offer paid volunteer time (264/500).

These results are impressive but not surprising given that corporate social responsibility (CSR) is the one unique program that can positively improve all three of these critical areas, simultaneously: employer brand, employee retention, and community.
