Embracing the spirit of giving in an increasingly digital world, Percent Pledge recently hosted a Community Volunteer Event, bringing our white glove volunteer services to a global community. The Virtual Map-a-Thon for North East India spotlighted the power of virtual volunteering to unite people for a pressing cause: strengthening the resilience of communities against the climate crisis.
In this carefully coordinated event, volunteers from the Percent Pledge community devoted their time to mapping crucial regions of North East India. This effort focused on areas like Bhuragaon, Laharighat, Dhing, and Mikirbheta, where the mapping data becomes a lifeline for disaster preparedness and climate crisis management. Our volunteers, connected through technology, played a pivotal role in fortifying these communities, mapping 1,759 buildings!
The volunteers' experience was as streamlined as it was impactful. One volunteer shared their experience: "I started working remotely about 1.5 years ago. My company does a lot of philanthropy activities but mostly in-person, near our HQ. I started an ERG for remote workers and want to explore ways to volunteer together virtually. I want to feel like I can be part of something bigger."
Through the dedication of our volunteers, the event not only supported a significant cause but also demonstrated the scalability of virtual volunteering. It underscored how remote contributions could lead to substantial in-kind value, with this particular event totaling $2,997 from 27 hours of volunteered time.
