Events like Women's History Month and International Women's Day provide the perfect opportunity to celebrate, empower, and make a difference in the lives of women and children, locally and across the globe.
How your company can celebrate Women’s History Month
The following initiatives were curated by our team of social impact experts that execute thoughtful social impact efforts for our customers every day. Some of these initiatives are easy enough to accomplish internally, but for others, you will need to lean on a social impact program or team.

[1] Donations
Our Percent Pledge Women's Empowerment Cause Portfolio contains four highly-regarded, thoroughly vetted nonprofits that help take the guesswork out of choosing the right organization for your company and employees to donate to and partner with.
Girls Inc.
Girls Inc. inspires all girls to be strong, smart, and bold, providing more than 130,000 girls across the U.S. and Canada with life-changing experiences and solutions to the unique challenges girls face. Trained staff and volunteers build mentoring relationships in girls-only spaces where girls find a sisterhood of support with mutual respect and high expectations. Research-based programs provide girls with the skills and knowledge to overcome obstacles and improve academics.
Girls who Code
Girls who Code works to close the gender gap in technology by educating and equipping girls with the skills and resources to pursue 21st-century opportunities. In six short years, it has created the largest pipeline of future female software engineers in the U.S. Girls who Code seeks to ensure that more girls have access to CS who would otherwise never gain meaningful exposure.
Malala Fund
Malala Fund is working for a world where every girl can learn and lead. Founded by activist and Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai, it champions every girl’s right to 12 years of free, safe, quality education. Together its board, leadership council, staff, and champions are creating a more equal world by making sure all girls can go to school.
Vital Voices Global Partnership
Vital Voices Global Partnership is an international nonprofit that identifies and partners with creative and fearless women leaders around the world. Serving as a “venture catalyst,” Vital Voices identifies leaders with a daring vision for change and partners with them to make that vision a reality.
Percent Pledge allows all companies and employees to donate to these nonprofits simultaneously through its Workplace Giving Platform.
[2] Volunteering
Time is invaluable, and volunteering your organization’s time, while inspiring your employees to do the same, is often the greatest gift you can give. It’s the perfect team-building event and can have an incredibly positive impact on your employees and your organization.
Make a big impact
Assemble a team of employees to volunteer at their community’s local women's shelter. It’s one of the most immediate and impactful ways to make a difference in people’s lives by working directly with victims of domestic violence.
Host a local drive
Organize a group of employees to host a feminine hygiene menstrual product drive and invite other businesses and organizations to join. It’s a critical need in underserved communities and a relatively small gesture that can make a huge impact on the lives of women. Products can be dropped off at your local women’s shelter.
Play a part in global women's empowerment
Love Volunteers see empowering women as an essential part of lifting impoverished communities out of the cycle of poverty, and it’s at the heart of their Women's Empowerment Programs. A volunteer's role might include educating communities on gender equality, helping with childcare, improving hygiene practices, teaching practical skills, working with local business ventures, and teaching English to open up career paths. Invite your employees to join a Women's Empowerment Program and be part of the movement towards improved quality of life for all.
A single volunteer event takes 20-30 hours to plan and execute. Learn how Percent Pledge saves your company that time by organizing customized volunteer events.
[3] Other ways to support women
Inspire your employees to get involved and show their support. No gesture is too small.
Champion women-owned businesses
Contact your local chamber of commerce and create a list of women-owned local businesses and distribute it to your employees, encouraging them to support. Consider providing discounts or other incentives.
Get inspired
Ripple Effect Images Speakers Bureau is an extraordinary team of photojournalists and filmmakers who connect deeply with their audiences through compelling stories and world-class visuals. All accomplished speakers, they offer personal narratives of hope, resilience, and survival. Contact them to book a speaker for your organization.
It’s showtime
Host a weekly employee viewing party with beverages and snacks (of course) during Women’s History Month, featuring movies directed by accomplished female directors with strong, inspiring female leads.
Listen to this
Share Women’s History-themed podcasts with your employees, and invite them to add one to their workday listening rotation.
