Although ending hunger is a cause that requires action all year round, Hunger Awareness Month is an amazing opportunity to invigorate your employees to take action to help end hunger globally. These initiatives can help your company provide short-term solutions with meals today and provide long-term solutions like education and opportunities tomorrow.

How your company can support Hunger Awareness Month

The following initiatives were curated by our team of social impact experts who execute thoughtful social impact efforts for our customers every day. Some of these initiatives are easy enough to accomplish internally, but for others, you will need to lean on a social impact program or team.

Don’t have a social impact program or team? Learn more about Percent Pledge-powered customized social impact programs, a single source for donations, volunteering, charity vetting, & impact reports.

[1] Donations

Our Percent Pledge Hunger Cause Portfolio contains four highly-regarded, thoroughly vetted nonprofits that help take the guesswork out of choosing the right organization for your company and employees to donate to and partner with.

Rise Against Hunger

Driven by the vision of a world without hunger, Rise Against Hunger is growing a global movement to end hunger by empowering communities, nourishing lives, and responding to emergencies. Rise Against Hunger also supports safety net programs that provide nourishment and encourage education through school feeding, vocational training, and health clinics to support the difficult journey out of poverty.

Blessings in a Backpack

Because of its programs’ community-focused nature, Blessings in a Backpack is uniquely positioned to effectively respond to crises on behalf of our kids. It mobilizes communities, individuals, and resources to provide food on the weekend to kids who might otherwise go hungry.

Feeding America

Feeding America's mission is to advance change in America by ensuring equitable access to nutritious food for all in partnership with food banks, policymakers, supporters, and the communities we serve.

Food Access Project - Vivery

Vivery's mission is to decrease food insecurity and increase access to nutritious food through technology. Its vision is to leverage technology to build equitable systems to help people thrive.

Percent Pledge allows all companies and employees to donate to these nonprofits simultaneously through its Workplace Giving Platform.

[2] Volunteering

Time is the most valuable commodity, and volunteering your company’s time, while inspiring your employees to do the same, is one of the greatest gifts you can give. Volunteering is the perfect team-building event and can have a positive impact on your employees and your organization.

Host a food drive

Join the fight to end hunger by hosting a team food drive. Items collected can be then dropped off at a local food bank or shelter to be distributed to those in need.

Visit the local food bank

Help package and prepare shelf-stable food items (canned fruits and vegetables, juice, peanut butter, dry powdered milk, pasta, spaghetti sauce, etc.), which will be distributed to clients of your local food bank.

Gather for good

Take part in a fun and educational virtual team-building experience with Rise Against Hunger, which includes learning about global hunger and poverty, and a Kahoot! quiz on various topics such as sustainable agriculture, nutrition, and food security.

A single volunteer event takes 20-30 hours to plan and execute. Learn how Percent Pledge saves your company that time by organizing customized volunteer events.

[3] Other ways to support

Inspire your employees to get involved to spread support. No gesture is too small.

Turn miles into meals

Encourage employees to go outside and turn their miles into meals with Move for Hunger. There are plenty of fall events in almost every corner of the US that you can take part in.

Reduce food waste

Encourage employees to reduce their food waste with these 7 simple tips.

Find a breakdown of each of these efforts and more for your company to make a positive impact this September by downloading our End Hunger Kit.
