How Corporate Volunteering Honors Black History Month

On February 13, 2025, employees from companies across the world came together to honor Black History Month through virtual volunteering. In partnership with Defy Ventures, our volunteers reviewed resumes for justice-impacted entrepreneurs, providing them with the tools they need for a fresh start.

Virtual Volunteering: One Hour Can Make an Impact

This wasn’t just about resumes—it was about second chances. Volunteers used their skills to build confidence and open doors to new opportunities. By combining corporate volunteering with Black History Month, we created a simple yet powerful way for employees to give back in just one hour.

Employee Volunteer Voices

Here’s what some of our volunteers had to say:

  • Christen @ Peet's Coffee: "Thank you Defy Ventures and Percent Pledge!"
  • Andy (She/Her) @Ciena: "This is my first time. Really excited to be a part of this!"
  • Maria @New Relic: "This is my first time too and I'm also excited to here!"
  • Temi @ Airship: "Thank you for the invite, this is such a great initiative to be a part of."
  • Mandy @ onX: "Loved this! Thank you for the opportunity!"
  • Ida @ EVgo: "Such a great cause!!"
  • Elaine @ Meltwater: "Wonderful event. Will be participating again. Thank you!"
  • Nick @ STACK Infrastructure: "Great Event! Thanks."
  • Charlie @ Mediaocean: "Thank you all for hosting this, it was great!"
  • Marc @ CSS: "Thank you Percent Pledge and Defy Ventures for a great event!"

These voices remind us why workplace volunteering matters—small efforts lead to big impact.
